Swiss Bicycles
The rental bicycles used on these trips are in excellent condition. They are the Light frame from BMC (pictured left) and the Modern Villiger chrome alloy frame (pictured right). They have either 21 or 24 gears; and come equipped with a baggage rack, lights, mudguards, spare inner tube, pump and repair kit.
- Frame sizes: 44 cm, 50 cm, 56 cm
- Gears: Shimano
- Brakes: V brakes
Both men and women's bicycles are available, and the bicycles will be assigned according to gender unless requested otherwise. Before your trip, the bicycle seats will be adjusted according to your height. You may also bring along a padded seat cover to put over the bike saddle for more comfort, such as a gel cover, and/or bring along padded bicycle shorts. Bringing your own saddle and/or pedals is not allowed due to the damage they may cause to the bicycles. (Europe uses the Metric System).
Helmets
Bicycle helmets are not required on any of our cycling trips, with the possible exception of children under the age of 12. Though we recommend the use of helmets and cannot be held responsible for non-usage, they are optional and should you wish to use one, they must be either brought along, purchased on location or they can be rented at some of the train stations where you pick up the bicycle.
Bringing and using your own bicycle is no problem. If doing so, be sure to bring a good bike lock.
