On this Costa Brava electric bike tour, you cycle along the coast of Empordà or the Wild Coast as it is also aptly known, before veering inland towards the majestic Pyrenees mountain range.
This is a region of diverse and haunting beauty. On the coast, dramatic cliffs plunge to the sea. Vibrant villages with colorful harbors hum with the traditional fishing culture and life. Pristine beaches are perfect for soaking in the sun and the sounds of the surf.
Beyond the beaches, you have a mosaic of rice fields and great agricultural plains with the mountains etching the distance. The natural reserves of the wetlands offer a haven where birds rest during their remarkable migration between Europe and Africa.

Day 1: Girona
What a perfect place to begin your bike tour! Girona has become a hub for professional cyclists and enthusiasts alike, attracting many professionals for training. This has led to the development of a vibrant cycling community. Of course we all know that it is not just about the bike. There is much to be explored!At check-in to your hotel, you will receive the tour documentation: detailed maps with itinerary, general map with tourist information, hotel list, luggage labels, map of the local bike shop where you will go to pick up your bike. Be sure to look everything over carefully and have your questions prepared for tomorrow when you go to retrieve your bike. Our local representative will be waiting and prepared to answer any questions you may have.
Girona's medieval "old town" is a testament to its rich history, and the Cathedral showcases remarkable Gothic architecture, featuring vast stone-vaulted interiors. The intact city walls punctuated by numerous towers and fortifications, provide a panorama of history both in and out of the city.
Walking the banks of the Onyar River, lined with an eclectic row of colorful houses known as the Cases de l'Onya, features diverse ranging from Gothic to Baroque.
The combination of the river, the bridges, and the colorful houses results in an ambiance that contributes to the city's unique character.

Day 2: Girona - Sant Feliu de Guíxols, 34 mi. (55 km) | +690m
After retrieval of the rental bike, you follow a southern cycle path, traversing the "El Carrilet" greenway, through Quart, Cassà de la Selva, and Llagostera. The Gavarres Massif, an oak-forested mountain range provides the backdrop. After an exhilarating descent with panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea. you arrive to Col de Sant Grau. The final leg weaves along the coast from a 100-meter vantage point with the cliffs and sea spread out before you. Day 3: Sant Feliu de Guixols - Torroella de Montgrí, 37 mi. (59 km) | +451m
You travel northward along the coastline, a route that seamlessly blends the coastal road with picturesque seafront boulevards. The route leads through the prominent port town of Palamós. The pristine Platja de Castell cove, known for the ancient Iberian settlement, is an ideal setting for a picnic and a refreshing swim in the azure waters of the Mediterranean.The path then follows the "Ruta del Tren Petit" greenway, to the enchanting old fishing village of Calella de Palafurgell. The smells, sounds, and colors of the sea tempt you to stop and savor. Enjoy the busy and chaotic fish, meat, and produce market. There is a cork museum here as well. Up next, the medieval village of Pals, showcases well-preserved medieval architecture.
Natural wetlands with extensive rice fields and long sandy beaches provide diversity to your route, concluding in Torroella de Montgrí at the foot of the Montgri Massif Castle.

Day 4: Circular ride through the medieval villages, 41 mi. (65 km) | +570m
You choose today: unwind by the pool or beach, or climb on your bike and ride. As you trace the gentle curves of the Daro Rivera, the medieval village of Fonolleres is on your route. Each cobbled street and ancient facade whisper tales of a bygone era.The journey then unfolds to Púbol, home to the unbelievable Castle of Gala Dalí. Welcome to the surrealism, artistic eccentricity, and vivid imagination of Salvador Dalí!
As you return to the coast, the ruins of an ancient Iberian village near Ullastret provide a vantage point that transcends time. The site dates back to the Iberian period, which spanned from the 6th century BCE to the 1st century BCE.

Local Travel
Barcelona (BCN)
There are two options for onward travel from Barcelona to Girona:
From Barcelona airport: You can take the shuttle train to Barcelona Sants main station. The shuttle train leaves from Terminal 2. If your flight arrives at Terminal 1 there is a bus that leaves every 7 minutes and takes 10 minutes to get to Terminal 2. The train from Terminal 2 departs every 30 minutes at :08 and :38. and takes 19 minutes to get to Sants station. A taxi from Barcelona airport to Sants train station usually costs about €25 and the trip takes about 25 minutes.
From Sants Station: You can take the slow train (1:46), fast train (1:30) or the high-speed train (37 min). For train times, please see this website. It is recommended to pre-book the high-speed train tickets as it gets very busy. This can be done on the same website.
It is then recommended that you travel by bus or by taxi onward to Torroella de Montgrí. The train station and bus station are in the same building in Girona.Girona-Costa Brava Airport (GRO): You can use the Barcelona Bus Service (part of the Sagales Company). Buses leave for the city center every hour. You can find complete timetables on the Sagales website.
Climate
Girona has a mild climate, with plenty of sunny days and not too much rain. There are differences on the coast, which might be a couple of degrees warmer, but with a cooling sea breeze. The best season for cycling in the land of Dali is Spring (March to June) and Autumn (September- October). Temperatures range between 20° and 25º C. In summer temperatures can reach 33° - 34 º.
Recommended
We recommend that you arrive early in Girona and spend a day or two here. Girona is a beautiful city where you get a real feeling for its history just by walking through its ancient streets. A walled city, dating back to the Roman period, it has a fascinating old quarter. You will be able to explore the entire city on foot since it is not very large.
Remarks
Regarding luggage transfer, please have luggage at reception no later than 9 am. The luggage will be delivered to your next hotel by 5 pm. In the event of an inclement weather forecast, please pack your pannier accordingly.
