| Description: |
From the mountain chains of Rhineland to the flat farming countryside of Holland....
Begin in the beautiful city of Koblenz, where the Rhine & the Mosel rivers meet. The city is consisted of the Aldstadt (old city) and the Neustadt (new city). The Aldstadt is the shape of a triangle, with 2 sides consisting of the Rhine & Mosel rivers, and the third side is covered by endless hills topped with fortresses. While the old city is closely built, the new city is more roomy with an attractive view of the Rhine. Cycling along the fascinating landscapes of the Rhine, you visit typical German towns such as Neuwied and Bonn. Cologne will entice you as it is a major cultural center. When you come to Düsseldorf, you can try their famous local dark beer, Altbier. You will be amazed to what an international city this is, with almost a fifth of the population being foreigners. While spending an overnight in Wesel, you must visit the fascinating cathedral. Crossing over into the Netherlands (also known as Holland) you come into Arnhem. As one of the biggest cities of Holland, it is famous for it's open air museum just outside the city. Before reaching Amsterdam you will bike through the flat, peaceful, farming countryside of Holland, not missing the famous windmills along the way. You will spend a night in Wijk bij Duurstede meaning "neighborhood near Duurstede". Duurstede is a castle/ruin near by. And finally you will come to the most bicycle-friendly city in the world, Amsterdam! Among it's beautiful Renaissance architecture there will be many sights to see and enjoy, including the Rijksmuseum and the Anne Frank house. Or perhaps you'd like to take it all in while relaxing on a canal ride through the city!
