Along the Rhine to the Main River....
You will begin in the old city of Arnhem, with its lively old city center, famous for it's Open Air Museum. Along the Rhine River crossing, the border into Germany you will pass through Emmerich. While many of the cities you are about come upon have been largely destroyed by air strikes in World War II, Emmerich is also one of them with 97% of it's city center destroyed but then rebuilt. You will spend an overnight in Wesel with it's fascinating Dom (cathedral). Pedaling along, Düsseldorf awaits you. You will be surprised what an international city it is with nearly a fifth of the population being foreigners. Don't forget to try the Altbier, a dark beer the city is famous for. In Cologne you will spend another night where you will have dinner (at your own expense) in one of the many local restaurants. The city is a cultural one with many vibrant art scenes. The city is also famous for it's Kölsch beer, which shares the same name as the local dialect. The local joke is "Kölsch is the only language you can speak". The next morning during breakfast you will sail along the Rhine to Bonn to start the day's tour. Bonn is the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven. Here you can visit the Beethoven House (museum).

In Koblenz you will come upon the confluence of the Rhine & Mosel Rivers. The city is consisted of the Aldstadt (old city) and the Neustadt (new city). The Aldstadt is the shape of a triangle, with 2 sides consisting of the Rhine & Mosel rivers, and the third side has lovely hills topped with many appealing fortresses. While the old city is closely built, the new city is more roomy with an attractive view of the Rhine. Still on the Rhine, you will bike to St. Goar, amazingly hidden in between the surrounding mountains. The city is famous for being near the Burg Rheinfels castle ruin. We will also pass Lorely, a famous rock soaring 120 meters above the Rhine.
An overnight in Bingen is also worth the trip, notable for it's premium wine production. And finally you come to Mainz, at the confluence of the Rhine & Main Rivers. This city has 2000 years of interesting history with many sites to see such as Roman remains including a theater and aqueduct.
